We have a database on a volume that is very low on space. 4GB left of 100GB.
I have DISCONNECTED and REMOVED some mailboxes from the DB , but this did NOT clear the space in the DB or the volume.
I am not clear on the next steps mostly due to available space and the low available space % (4GB is less than 15-20%, related to ESEUTIL cleanup) on the existing volume. I have also tried to run a full backup which also did NOT clear the DB of space.
Proposed option for comment:
1. Should I spinup a iSCSI drive (using the iSCSI initiator) and create a NEW DB on this drive? I could then move all active and VALID mailboxes to this NEW DB on the iSCSI drive which would be in fact only ACTIVE data. I would then delete the OLD DB with the disconnected mailboxes and trapped data.
2. Once I move the mailboxes to the new DB on the iSCSI drive and delete the old DB, I suspect I can then MOVE the NEW DB (should be around 60GB) to the original volume. I am not sure how to move a DB in exchange. I guess I could alway create a THIRD DB on the original volume and move the active DB from the iSCSI volume to the third DB.
Anyways, a learning is making sure you dont run out of space on exchange DBs. ARCHIVE and PURGE policies surely must be researched and implemented.
