Exchange 2013 role initiating Availability Service requests

Hi,

In earlier versions of Exchange (pre-2013) the CAS server role initiated availability requests to other Exchange orgs to request free/busy information.

Has this changed in E2013?

Is t correct that the mailbox role is now responsible for initiating these requests?

Meaning that I have to open more firewall ports between two Exchange orgs?
