We're currently in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. I have a situation, where in order to reduce the list of names in the GAL, several outside "contacts" are hidden from the GAL. Those contacts are part of Distrubtion Lists.
In Exchange 2003, if a user clicks the + sign to expand the group, those external contacts show up in the TO: field. Also, if the user looks at the DL in the GAL, they see all the members.
In Exchange 2010, those members hidden from the GAL are also hidden from the DL. That said, a user intending to expand the group so they can specifically exclude a member will not have all the members. Likewise, if the user goes to the GAL to look at the members in a DL, they won't see the true picture of who is a member of that DL.
My question is, is it possible to make those external contacts visible, but have them in a folder or some other category so that they view in the DL, but don't make the GAL really lengthy?
