Virtualized (using hyper-v) Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012, all roles on this 1 server, no DAG and not clustered. We are going to upgrade our windows servers to 2012 R2 and setup clustering and as i understand it, server 2012 with exchange 2013 installed can not be in-place upgraded. So in order to achieve our goal, we need to install 2012 R2, install the cluster role and then setup a vm for exchange. Is that correct because i have been scouring the internet and found this article:
http://windowsitpro.com/windows-server-2012/windows-server-2012-building-two-node-failover-cluster
Under the add VM role heading, it states "On the Select Virtual Machine page, all the VMs on all the cluster nodes will be listed, as shown in Figure 12. Scroll through the list and select the VMs that you want to be highly available."
Will there be a create VM option here if there isn't any VM's available or am i doing this wrong? We would like to reuse the current exchange server as the other cluster node. Is this possible with this process or should we look at a different process?
