Removing Exchange Server 2010 after Migration to 365

Hi

I read on the forum and else where about the correct steps for this, but I am more confused now, as there seems to be so many contradictories about it. Also most of the responses are about Exchange in Hybrid mode, which is not our case.

On Premise, we have 2 Exchange 2010 in a cluster environment. We setup ActiveDirSync between AD and 365. We used SkyKick to migrate all our mailboxes, resources, contacts, public folders, etc.

Everything is working fine. The 2 Exchange servers have been turned off for a while, to prove it is no longer needed.

However, we would like to remove them at some stage.

To remove one of the server from the cluster environment does not seem out of the ordinary. It is the removal of the last Exchanger server that causes concerns.

Will it remove some attributes in AD and then in 365 (because of ActiveSyncDir). Will it remove all the distributions groups, contacts in AD and 365 later on?

We just want to make sure that removing the last exchange server will not cause users to stop receiving/sending emails via 365. Furthermore, we have about 240 users, so we would not want to discover that we have to manually make changes to fix a possible issues with missing attributes.

Also, Microsoft recommends still keeping one Exchange server on premises, but moving to 365 what one of the main reason to not having to support Exchange on premise. What is the real consensus about this?

Is there an official guide, or steps to achieve this (ie 365 with Active Sync in a non hybrid mode) which is bullet proof?

Thanks in advance
