We are looking to upgrade from 2010 to 2013 Exchange and want to purchase Premium CALS to utilize the in-place archive feature to get some of the data we have off our SAN and onto some cheaper storage medium. We have another Windows server with 10TB of spare disk in the same rack which would do the job nicely. That server is running 2008 Storage server edition.
I want to be able to use that servers storage for the in place archive, however, when I try to type in a shared path to that server. It tells me only local storage is supported. Is there no way around this? The Exchange 2013 server is hosted on VMware on
Server 2012 R2.
I know if the Storage Server was 2012 we could potentially setup something with iSCSI to present it to the VMware so we could use the space that way, but as far as I know, 2008 does not have that feature.
Also I suggested installing Exchange on the Storage Server but this wont be possible either.
Is there any other way to do this?
Thanks in advance.
