External software sending email to multiple addresses

We use MYOB accounting software to send invoices to customers. Some customers want their invoices sent to two email addresses. We experimented with entering two addresses in the email field in our database, which then sends the data to MYOB, which generates the emails and sends them with attachments.

The testing with two email addresses failed, with Outlook saying:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

email1[at]somewhere.com; email2[at]somewhereelse.com

The format of the e-mail address isn't correct. A correct address looks like this: someone[at]example.com. Please check the recipient's e-mail address and try to resend the message.

So it looks as though it's failing to leave at all, rather than being sent and not being delivered. When I copied the two addresses, exactly as returned in the message, into a new message they delivered with no problem.

I chatted with MYOB and they confirmed that they were actually able to make it work with Outlook.

I chatted with Outlook help and they said because we're using Exchange server, they can't help me.

Any ideas on what would prevent this from working, yet return an error message showing email addresses that do in fact work?

Thanks
