I am trying to setup Federation between two internal servers. We are in the process of migrating from one domain to another (olddomain.com and sub.newdomain.com)
The old domain has exchange 2010 and the new domain is running exchange 2013.
both servers have newdomain.com as an internal relay domain, the company started using newdomain.com in their email coorespondence a few years ago.
Old Domain:
olddomain.com Internal Relay to the New Domain
newdomain.com Internal Relay to the New Domain
New Domain:
olddomain.com Internal Relay to the Old Domain
newdomain.com Internal Relay to the Old Domain
sub.newdomain.com Authoritative
I have a couple questions:
In the 2013 Exchange, when I attempt to add the two internal relay domains to the Federation: "Organization ->Sharing -> Federation Trust -> Modify -> Step 2: add additional domains you want to enable for sharing" They are not listed, however they are listed under Accepted domains: Mailflow -> Accepted Domains. How do I get them listed in Step 2 above so I can enable them for Federation?
The second question I have is concerning creating the federation trust and the DNS records/TXT records needed. If this has been answered before, please excuse me, I have seen a lot of guidence on this, but not sure how to deal with it in my situation.
Being that both the new and the old domain are using "newdomain.com" as their default email domain, I have used the following for our external and internal DNS entries.
Old Domain:
Autodiscover.olddomain.com (A record both internal and external)
TXT record for olddomain.com
New Domain:
autodiscover.newdomain.com
TXT record for sub.newdomain.com
I can get both servers to connect the the Federation Gateway, BUT they will not talk to each other...not sure what I'm doing wrong.
