Good day -
First we have a DAG cluster of 2 Exchange 2010 Servers. These servers house the same roles on each. Our MX records our housed via MXLogic (McAfee) via their email services. So our MX records point to them, and then they relay the mail down to our exchange environment. We also have two gateway providers coming into our building. My thought process is that I could set one server to one gateway and the other to the other gateway. At MXLogic level, create two preferences with one IP pointing to gateway and the other preference pointed to the other gateway. Have a CISCO ASA with no Inspection in policy for ESTMP. Firewall is disabled at server level.
Now, when I do a test connectivity from MXLogic, all is clear except one gateway. It states that it can reach port 25 but no smtp banner received after 30 seconds.
With that said - I proceeded to run a "Get-ReceiveConnector "receive connector from Exchange Server" | format -list and the banner is listed as "220 mail.domainname.com" .. proceeded to run a telnet from local workstation to that server - however the banner returns 220 "Server Name" Microsoft ESMTP Mail Service Ready at "todays date" etc.
1.) why am I getting the above banner message?
2.) why cant I get the banner to display via telnet from outside (hence the test stating that port 25 is open, however no smtp banner after 30 seconds"
Thank you for your time and thoughts.
