Example: Exchange 2010/2013 with 2-3 databases does it save email 2-3 times for different users over the databases?

Hi,

We are facing again pst-files, they keep growing, won't index search correctly and sometimes needs to be repaired :-(  Now we are looking for a better solution.
Customers of us are using Exchange 2010/2013 standard edition, so no Archive Database function available in the license :-(

The current (single) Exchange database is about 160GB (45 user company), the total of PST files is about 200GB. Now I want to import the PST files to the Exchange server.

The hardware config is HP DL380 Gen8 with 16 cores, 18GB (will be added extra soon) of ram and 4x600GB 10k raid5.

What is best solution? Add 1 or 2 extra Exchange databases and seperate the users over the 2-3 databases? Will email that is send to a distributiongroup (users in different Exchange databases) will be saved 3 times? Or is the software capable of creating pointers to different databases?

Duplicate Emails / Anonymous Relay / mail.que

A few weeks back we started getting duplicated emails delivered to users, I'm struggling to figure out the cause....

  • We have two Exchange 2013 servers in a DAG, SP1 with no CU's applied. I'm not convinced it is configured correctly, but it has been working ok up until this issue started. I'm not aware of anything being changed that could explain/have caused this issue.
  • When an affected email is sent it is received by server01 then copied to server02 for high availability. It is the copy on server02 that is then re-delivered a number of days later causing the duplication.
  • It appears to only be affecting internal emails sent via an anonymous relay.
  • The duplicated emails occur every 4-5 days, it happens in a big block then nothing until the next occurrence.
  • The duplicated emails appear to tie in with a new mail.que file being created by Exchange on server01.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this and how it can be resolved?

Moving malibox between DB in Exchange 2013

Hi,

 I have two Exhange 2013 servers in a DAG. I have recently recoverd from a "dirty shutdown"

 I have two DB, DB01 and DB04. DB01 has a copy db but DB04 has not.  I am moving all mailbox from DB04 to DB01.

 I am using powershell to do this.

  If I  list all users in DB04 I can see that the mailbox I moved from DB04 to DB01 are still listed as they are on DB04.??

   The DB04 is on diskdrive F: and DB01 on diskdive E: , the plan is to delete DB04 and remove diskdrive F:

   The tranx logs are on same disk as the DB.

  My final plan is to stop using DAG. I am thinking about adding a new Exchange server to the DAG and the delete or stop

   the   DAG and throw away the two old servers and run one Exchange server without DAG.

   So is there anything I should be aware of that can effect this plan.

Exchange 2010 and 2013 coexistance

In Microsoft's Proffered architecture, it says to move dns to point to exchange 2013 once it is ready in exchange 2010 coexistence environment. I have a question here.

- If we don't change URL to point to 2013 CAS and setup different URL for it and just migrate mailboxes from 2010 to 2013 which will pick up to new URLs with OA?

-Also i was checking deployment assistant it says to use or can be used same URL for all services, however i have heared some where else that OA internal and external URL should be different because of authentication issue. 

Any advise?

How to Remove Users (AD Disabled) from Team Calendar

Hello Team,

We are facing number of issues wherein the users who have left the organization (AD account disabled and Mailbox in disabled state) still show up in the Team Calendar View. The AD account still show their reporting manager but we cannot remove this data from the AD account of the user. Is this a known issue is there any fix to this?

The users having Disabled AD account should not be showing up in the Team Calendar view.

Exchange OAB is Corrupted

Hi

We have Exchange Server 2010 deployed in our enterprise. 

For the last few days our GAL is not getting updated. On checking the server I found out that our OAB generation is corrupeted. Following is the message:

OABGen detected that the file "" is corrupted or missing.

As I understand I will need to rebuild the OAB again.

However I wanted to know why did the OAB suddenly become corrupted.  How do I identify the reason for OAB getting corrupted suddenly?

Basically I do not want to rebuild a GAL and know that all of a sudden one day it got corrupted .

Any kind of suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Export data from EDB to PST

Hello, anyone know any tool that export data from a mailbox of a EDB to PST?

I need to retrieve messages from a user and perhaps the EDB is corrupt, we are not sure.

But if you know any tool that exports at least a healthy EDB, may already help.

ECP Display Language in Exchange 2013

How can I change the Display Language inside the ECP? Right now, the majority of the words inside ECP is shown in my local language (not English), and I would like it to show all English only.

Hello,

I need to import contacts every night of a business application.
They are either deleted, created or update contacts.

My import command works perfectly. All this goes to a specific OU Contacts in AD.

My question is whether there was a command to update all this or just to empty the OU.

Firewall Settings for Exchange 2013 with DAG

Hello, I am testing a new Exchange 2013 deployment that is using database availability groups. Our topology is we have two hub locations with a CAS and Mailbox Server in each for site resilience and a file share witness in a third site. In testing by simulating failovers, both automatic and manual, our experience so far is overall positive with one exception. We have a software firewall (Symantec Endpoint Protection) and it is causing a lot of issues for the cluster. What I am noticing is that the virtual cluster adapter is sending over traffic using an IPv6 address link local. That address seems subject to change so I tried to unblock the traffic by the MAC address which also appears to be subject to change. The software I'm using doesn't allow to unblock based on IPv6 specific addresses and now that I can't use the MAC to unblock I'm kind of stuck. I'm reluctant to disable IPv6 as that is against recommendation. It seems that Exchange is simply not friendly with firewalls at all and I'm getting a little frustrated trying to secure it. So far, the best I can come up with is to just find the specific ports involved but allow them from all hosts and to all adapters. Does anyone else have experience that they can share with me on how you've secured your Exchange servers in a site resilient cluster scenario? Thank you in advance for your time!

Implementing In-Place archiving Exchange 2013 environment

I was just tasked with the project to implement In-Place archiving in our Exchange 2013 environment. Right now I’m searching for a good known tool that will assist with scanning users’ hard drives and migrate their .pst files to their In-Place archiving mailbox. So far I have found one, Sherpa Software, but if possible I would like to take a look at a few and compare them. If anyone knows of any products that will assist with this type of task please let me know. I will really appreciate it.

PowerShell - Import-Csv more objects

Hello,

I use this command for import a CSV:

import-csv c:\import3.csv -Delimiter ';' | foreach { new-mailcontact -alias $_.Alias -name $_.DisplayName -ExternalEmailAddress $_.EmailAddress -OrganizationalUnit “domaine.com/architecture/utilisateurs/Contacts”}

My CSV like that:

Name;DisplayName;EmailAddress;Alias

All is OK

Now i want import more informations for the contacts but i don't find the solution.

1) Where can i find all the objects possible to add in a contact list ?

2) I try that just for add the phone number but i have an invalidArgument

receiving copy of mail sent to specific users

hello all 

need your help

Whenever one of my Project manager reply to specific 2/3 users email, then he is also getting a copy of same mail automatically. This need to stop.

in order to check this

I check for the rules but there is no rule set for this and it is very strange this is not happening if he replies to other users in the organisation.

my environment has Exchange 2003 + sp3 and outlook 2010.

Exchange 2013 user tried to e-mail a large Exchange 2007 DL, not all recipients received message

Hello,

We just migrated all of our users to Exchange 2013.  Today was the first time someone tried to e-mail this large distribution list (about 2,100 members).  The DL is still located on Exchange 2007.  Our hub server is still 2007.  Some recipients received it, some did not.  I've checked the limits of the DL, the sender's permissions, and the max recipients limits of our Exchange servers (5000) and I can't find out why not all users received the message.

I'm guessing that if the sender had reached a limit, her Outlook client would've told her and/or the message just never would've been sent to anyone.

I looked in the Exchange Tracking Logs.  It looks like the Hub Transport server split the recipients up in to several different messages.  One recipient list has RECEIVE/SMTP for this message in the logs.  Another recipient list has FAIL/STOREDRIV noted, and I'm guessing those are the people who did not receive the message.

The error is:

Why would some users get the message and some not?  Or am I looking for answers in the wrong places?

Hello,

I import contacts via this command:

My problem is that some contacts have the same email address.
How creating an email address even if it already exists?

Users are automaticallly removed from distribution list

Hi All,

Recently we are having issue with Distribution List, where the members are removing automatically.

Not sure which is causing the issue..

DC is 2008 R2, Users mailbox is in exchange server 2013 (2012 server)

Could you please let me know why it is happening and how..

Also how can we resolve this issue?

Hello,

I have about 1000 groups and would like to find an easier way to add at least two Owners in each group using shell.  The owners are the exchange admin (the same persons) for all the groups. Is there a shell command that can do this instead of doing it manually?

Groups in Exchange 2013

Hi,

I'm not sure if I need to create a (dynamic) distribution group or a security group.

I want to create a group with a few users where I can delegate each users max attachment size.

I tried going through the groups in EAC and couldn't figure it out. Can anyone advise on how to accomplish this?
