2013 on-premise cu8 highly available network

long story short we have a program that only communicates with Exchange using pop3 (I know...), the ports are open, the service is running, the option is enabled on the mailbox yet frequently they get "can not connect errors"

yep, that's it, that's what I have to work with. Any ideas?

Decommissioning Exchange after migration to Office 365

$

This question is driving me crazy and I'm reading so many conflicting reports as to what the process is after migration. Here is the scenario:

We've just completed a staged migration of Exchange 2007 Server mailboxes to Office 365.We are using Azure Active Directory Connect to sync (and will continue to do so) users from local AD. Now the big question.... do we need to keep our Exchange 2007 server on premise to manage users after migration?? Some Microsoft guideline here says you can decommission the server (here https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/What-you-need-to-know-about-a-staged-email-migration-to-Office-365-7e2c82be-5f3d-4e36-bc6b-e5b4d411e207 and here https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/Perform-a-staged-migration-of-email-to-Office-365-83bc0b69-de47-4cc4-a57d-47e478e4894e?ui=en-US&rs=en-GB&ad=GB&rs=en-GB&ad=GB#PostMigrationstaged). The latter one quotes the following:

Decommission on-premises Exchange servers.    After you’ve verified that all email is being routed directly to the Office 365 mailboxes, have completed the migration, and no longer need to maintain your on-premises email organization, you can uninstall Exchange.

But.... I've read loads of posts saying Microsoft do not advise decommissioning the servers after migration. It's really frustrating as I'm sure nobody wants to keep an unused Exchange server running on site just for management! I can find no documentation which details what would need to be done on premise if we want to remove or shutdown the old Exchange server.

Any help is much appreciated as I'm sure there are loads of people experiencing similar!

Thanks.

eDiscovery Issue 2013 Hybrid and Exchange Online

When I run an eDiscovery search from my 2013 hybrid server I get the following error...

Errors:

Export failed with error type: 'FailedToSearchMailboxes'. Details: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Endpoint: Exchange2013.domain.local:444/.../Exchange.asmx HttpContext:

X-AnchorMailbox:it-cchiuu@domain.org

I have contacted Microsoft O365 support, and they advised that the problem is with my on-prem environment and has nothing to do with O365 or the cloud mailboxes.

If I perform an eDiscovery search from on-prem and choose < 10 specific mailboxes (either on-prem and/or cloud mailboxes), the search runs successfully.

But, if I go beyond the 10 mailboxes or choose "Search all mailboxes", I get the above error.

I am at a loss...  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Exchange Hybrid Setup Issues.

$

Hi Guys,

Firstly, I apologise if this is the incorrect group for this, but couldn't find anything for hybrid setups.

I'm having an issue setting up hybrid exchange and office365.

My environment.

Forest with two sub-domains.

Exchange 2010 in root forest running all roles and one CAS server.

Exchange 2013 mailbox server with 2 x CAS servers in next domain.

Exchange 2013 running all roles in last domain.

I'm trying to configure the hybrid on exchange 2013 domain with the 2 x cas servers. I have followed the setup guide on the office365 console for a hybrid setup with exchange 2013. I get to the point where I have to login to the ECP and enable the hybrid mode. I click enable and have to sign into office365 which is fine. I then have to click enable again and THIS is where i have an issue. A second tab opens up and redirects to the following link https://login.microsoftonline.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&wtrealm=https%3a%2f%2fconfigure.office.com&wctx=rm%3d0%26id%3dpassive%26ru%3d%252ferrorpages%252froutingerror.aspx&wct=2016-04-05T06%3a04%3a49Z&wreply=https%3a%2f%2fconfigure.office.com and this page just keeps refreshing and refreshing. I have tried it over multiple different types of connections and with multiple browsers, the result is always the same. A blank page that keeps refreshing.

I'm running the latest CU's on all servers. But I can't figure this out as there is no error for me to work with. Anyone experienced this before?

Some mails not being received in the mailbox: Character set name (UNKNOWN) is invalid or not installed

Hi all

My Exchange 2013 CU11 environmento is not able to deliver some received emails to the mailboxes.

The tracking shows the following:

Source: ROUTING
EventId: FAIL
RecipientStatus: {[{LRT=};{LED=550 5.6.0 CAT.InvalidContent.Exception: InvalidCharsetException, Character set name (UNKNOWN) is invalid or not installed.; cannot handle content of message with InternalId 32985348833358, InternetMessageId <1603050614323BAB_2924291@efactura-trx>.};{FQDN=};{IP=}]}

The only KB (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2536702) I've found is related to Exchange 2010 and the solution is a configuration of the edge (i dont use it).

Any idea about the cause and/or a possible solution?

Thanks all!

I'd like to add "*INFO*" to the subject line of incoming emails send to a Dist group email address.

I have created a distribution group called "INFO" with an email address of info@ourdomain.com that has 5 members in it. It is a contact email address from our website and 5 different department heads receive these emails and forward them to others in the organization as needed.

I'd like to add "*INFO*" to the beginning of the subject line so when the dept heads receive these emails, they see that and know that it came from that dist group. I would like to do this because we have had a small issue where 1 dept head forwards the incoming email to another dept that is also in the group and has already received the email. It just gets annoying.

Any help would be very appreciated

Editing attachments in Exchange 2013 with Office Web Apps Server

Hi,

I'd like to know if it's possible to edit Office attachments (such as .docx, .pptx and .xlsx) directly through an Office Web Apps Server which is already integrated with my Exchange Server 2013 on premises.

In my searches at Internet I've only found documents saying it's possible to preview Docs in this scenario (what I'm already able to do), but I have not found any article saying I can't edit this kind of file.

I appreciate any help to understand if its possible or no.

Thanks a lot!

Hybrid Mode Cloud to OnPrem Mail Transporting Not Working

$

Hi,

I have a hybrid deployment set up, and everything I've tested (thus far) is working except for mail transport from O365 to OnPrem.  This is increasingly becoming a problem because it seems that MS does not use MX records to deliver mail from other O365 subscribers. Instead it is trying to use the Hybrid Deployment to deliver mail.  I'm curious how this works.  I thought the transporting was configured to look like it was coming from from another Exchange server in the organization, so the Default FrontEnd receive connectors would be used.  Perhaps that's not the case.

On the O365 side, I see this defer error:

Reason: [{LED=450 4.4.101 Proxy session setup failed on Frontend with ‎'441 4.4.1 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP address: "Failed to connect. Winsock error code: 10061, Win32 error code: 10061." Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or

On my hybrid config, ClientAccesServers and EdgeTransportServers are null. ReceivingTransportServers are the names of two CAS servers onprem (let's say FE01 and FE02).  These servers have no external A records.  OnPremisesSmartHost is webmail.domain.com, which does have an external presence.  Externally originating traffic from MS data center IP's to port 25 of webmail gets sent straight to the internal NLB IP for those two CAS servers (FE01 and FE02) via firewall and F5 rules.

If it doesn't look like an Exchange server, then I'd imagine I need to build a new receive connector that allows anonymous relaying from MS datacenter IP's on a new IP address that I could add to the NLB.  Then route traffic there via the F5 virtual server.  Any thoughts about what the issue could be?

Stopping Spam reporting as being sent from my domain

Hi All,

I have an exchange 2013 server sitting on Server 2012 R2, Spam filtering works just fine for most spam received, but when an email is reporting as being from user@mydomain.com, it comes straight through, at first it was very seldom, but it's increasing to several a day.

I have a pretty simple standard setup I would imagine, but have SMTP sending enabled for unauthenticated user and have restricted by sending IP.

I also has the SPF filter in place, but with the least restrictive settings as email being falsely rejected would be a huge problem.

Advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Exchange 2010 SP3 causing Exceptions on Windows Server 2003 SP2 Domain Controller

$

Hi,

We are currently migrating the exchange infrastructure from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 SP3. Unfortunately the domain controllers are still on Server 2003 SP2, and it is not possible to upgrade/replace the domain controllers (yet).

The problem we are experiencing is that since the user migrations have started there has been an increased number of random domain controller unplanned reboots. These occur immediately after some LDAP/AD communication with the new Exchange Servers.

The first sign of trouble is this message:

Event Type:	Warning
Event Source:	NTDS General
Event Category:	Internal Processing
Event ID:	1173
Date: 01/04/2016
Time: 10:22:21User: DOMAIN\EXCHANGESERVER2010$
Computer:	DOMAINCONTROLLER2K3
Description:
Internal event: Active Directory has encountered the following exception and associated parameters.

Exception:
c0000005
Parameter:
0

Additional Data
Error value:
7c82a75f
Internal ID:
0

this is then shortly followed by:

Event Type: Error Event Source: Winlogon Event Category: None Event ID: 1015 Date: 01/04/2016 Time: 10:22:58 User: N/A Computer: DOMAINCONTROLLER2K3 Description: A critical system process, C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000005.

The machine must now be restarted. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I increased the logging of the NETLOGON service but there is nothing of any note from the exchange server prior to the exception. Once the domain controller restarts, the issue is then repeated on the next domain controller in the site, and then in some cases the PDC is then also affected as the Exchange Server connects to each in turn.

Admins also often receive a watson report message when logging onto the server:

HeaderText=LSA Shell encountered a problem and needed to close.

The versions are:

Exchange: Exchange 2010 SP3 RU12

DC: Windows Server 2003 SP2

lsass.exe version 5.2.3790.0 (srv03_rtm.030324-2048)

I appreciate Server 2003 is no longer in support however any advice, or known hotfixes would be appreciated (other than upgrade your domain controller).

Shared mailbox

Hi,
we have deleted distribution group, and then created shared mailbox with same name and users in it. When someone is sending from outside mail to this shared mailbox, it's working correctly. The problem is if someone from inside tries to send to this new mailbox, it gets the following error:

Remote Server returned '550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; not found'

i tried to delete autocomplete of single mailbox, delete the entire autocomplete list. But no success.

Hybrid Mode - OnPrem to O365 not working

$

Hi,

I've recently stood up a Hybrid Deployment, and I've trudged through most issues.  I think my last one is sending mail from on-prem to the cloud.  I've migrated a test mailbox to the cloud, and when I try to send email to it, the message eventually bounced after a couple days of delays.  The delay message I get is:

Remote Server at Cas01.domain.com (10.128.13.66) returned '450 4.7.0 Proxy session setup failed on Frontend with '451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "451 5.7.3 STARTTLS is required to send mail." Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts. The last endpoint attempted was 207.46.163.215:25''

I checked the send connector, and the servers are set to EHLO as the expected hostname, pass the expected cert, and TLS is enforced.  Is there something I can check to determine why and how this breaking down?

Office 365 and Exchange 2013 Single Sign-On

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the correct place for this.

We've configured an Office 365 and Exchange 2013 Hybrid configuration. DNS rceords have been setup. Initailly all certificates have been configured on the ADFS server and ADFS proxy.

The issue that we are having when testing using https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/, for Office 365 single sigon, we keep getting an error for ssl as shown below.

Our ADFS server is adfs.kbgs.sa.edu.au and has valid internal and external dns records.

We have changed all certificates on the ADFS server and ADFS proxy to include adfs.kbgs.sa.edu.au as a SAN in our certificates. We have also updated our federated domain on office 365 using update-msolfederateddomain -domain name

When doing the test again it keeps giving the same error. Where else can we check as the error is being seen from the ADFS server adfs.kbgs.sa.edu.au

Any help on this would be great as this is whats holding us up.

2013 upgarde to 2016 planning

I have 2 physical exchange 2013 systems all replicating mailboxes in DAG, runs great! Auto Reseeding is setup and working.

Looking at migrating to Exchange 2016.

Without affecting my existing environment wonder what would be the best path for a seamless upgrade?

Seems as though I need a new server to do this, since my existing servers are physical I'm wondering if I should go back to virtual, is auto reseeding still in 2016. Does the new 2016 server have to be internet facing initially?

just wondering what the best path might be, thanks
