Deleted mailbox shows up after creating a new mailbox

Greetings all and thanks in advance.

Not sure how it happened in the first place, but a end user's mailbox and AD account were accidentally deleted in one fatal move.  I was able to recover the user object using LDP.exe.  Then came the step of attaching the deleted mailbox to the AD object.  Of course, the deleted mailbox does not show up immediately, despite my cmdlet efforts to do so.  I even waited a overnight, but the mailbox did not show up in the connect to a mailbox list.

So I created a new mailbox.

Now the user is getting a message when starting outlook that "Your mailbox has been temporarily moved on Exchange server"  A temporary mailbox exists, but might not have all of your previous data."  I can use Temp mailbox, Use Old data or cancel.  When using Temp, everything works as expected, until we launch Outlook again.  If I choose Use Old Data, outlook shows the mailbox as it was when deleted and Outlook is set to Offline mode.

But guess what?  The old mailbox is now available in the Connect to a Mailbox list.

Is there a way for me to merge the two?  Can I delete the current mailbox and return to the old one?  I'm afraid the old one won't have the current data.  Or is the thing to do is just to delete the old mailbox and allow him to use the new one that is functioning?

Thanks,

Willis
