Good morning, all!
Our company has moved from an onsite Exchange 2013 structure to Office 365 Exchange. Everything seems to be running fine and it's time to decommission the onsite Exchange!
Except.....
I've run across some postings that seem to agree that there may be unfortunate complications if I uninstall the local Exchange. We're using the basic (free!) Azure AD Connect with a one-way trust, from my local AD to Azure only. As I understand it, if I uninstall Exchange and remove the Active Directory components, I could lose significant management of my O365 Exchange. If I simply shut down Exchange and leave AD alone, that should be OK. However, there are probably alternatives, most of which would sign me up for more monthly charges from Microsoft.
I have two Edge Transport servers and two Mailbox/Client Access servers, with a witness share to settle any disputes between them. If the above is true, I should be able to shut down and delete the two Edge Transport servers andone of the Mailbox servers. Since they were mirrors of each other, there should be no difference between them. I would keep one Mailbox server shut down, but not delete from the virtual platform. I would also delete the witness share to ensure no snarls if I would in extremis need to boot the Mailbox server.
Thoughts?
Thanks to all for looking!
