Exchange 2016 in coexistence with Exchange 2010 - Failed to connect Microsoft Outlook

$

Friends, good afternoon.

I'm doing a lab with Exchange 2016 in coexistence with Exchange 2010.

My scenario is as follows:

- SERVERDC (10.10.0.10)
  - Windows 2012 R2
  - CA Internal

- SERVEREXC01 (10.10.0.11)
  - Exchange 2010 SP3 UR11

- SERVEREXC02 (10.10.0.13)
  - Exchange 2016 / Database DAG: Lab2-Lab3 / Primary: SERVEREXC02
  - User 2 in Database: Lab2

- SERVEREXC03 (10.10.0.14)
  - Exchange 2016 / Database DAG: Lab3-Lab2 / Primary: SERVEREXC02
  - User 3 in Database: LAB3

- SERVEREXC04 (10.10.0.18)
  - Exchange 2016 / Database: Lab4
  - User 4 in Database: Lab4

Before changing InternalURL settings for a single FQDN and change certificates, Microsoft Outlook is connected perfectly with certificate error, but it worked.

After several problems with certificates deleted certificates and created new self-signed I returned the InternalURL to the FQDN of each serverexc02 and 03.

I installed a new SERVEREXC04 new server without having changed nothing and created an account in AD called User4.

To my surprise all users, including the new (User4) which is in SERVEREX04, which I did not do anything, also does not connect in Microsoft Outlook.

Looking at the conexções with (-ano netstat), I realize that Microsoft Outlook when you do the autodiscovery, he always tries first of SERVEREX01, then the 02, then 03 and the last on 04.

The problem is when he finds SERVEREXC04, it returns to the SERVEEXC03 and generates an error in Microsoft Outlook.

NOTE: The servers 01,02,03 are down at the time of testing. But the problem happens to them online too.

What I have to check to find the problem?

Thank you.

exchange storage question

I'm planning new Exchange infrastructure to migrate my existing email infrastructure on it. I have ~120 users with ~3-8 Gb mailboxes and a lot of public folders (~80 Gb). Total used mailbox space on current server is ~700 Gb. I have 12 3.5" drive bays, six-core Xeon  v3 3.5GHz , 64 GB of RAM and high-endraid card with BBU connected to 8 drive bays with 8 1Tb WD Raid edition drives (7200k) in these bays. I have 3 another low-loaded VMs on this host.

RAID 10 pool on whole disks is fastest, but I hear recommendations to provide dedicated storage for mailbox databases and don't mix Exchange DBs and logs, OS volume and another virtual machines on the same physical disks. And I want to depoly second server as a DAG member on another hypervisor. How can I use my storage in most effective way? All 8 discs as one RAID10 volume? Dedicated RAID volume for hypervisor OS with exchange system VHD on it and another raid volume for exchange data? Dedicated volumes for all exchange databases ang logs? Pass-through storage or VHDs?

I want to keep things simple but don't miss something important in perfomance and scalibility.

Exchange 2013 - User Photos

Hi All

We have recently gone through the process of uploading user photos to Exchange 2013.

Users are able to change there own photos via OWA.

How can we stop this? Can we allow certain users to update other photos, these users will not be members of IT?

Can't set database maintenance schedule

I'm running Exchange 2013 CU7 and I am unable to set a database maintenance Schedule. If I perform the action in the Exchange Admin center I get the following "error Your request couldn't be completed. Please try again in a few minutes.". I have tried powershell also and get the following output.

get-Mailboxdatabase db01 | Set-MailboxDatabase -MaintenanceSchedule "Sun.1:00 AM-Sun.5:00 AM"
CopyTo
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [], NotSupportedException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : RemotePSInvocationStateInfoReason
    + PSComputerName        : ex13mb01.mydomain.local

The problem occurs on more than one database.

Any suggestions?

Sizing Exchange 2013

Sorry in advance if this is a really stupid question!

I have used the following sizing tool: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Exchange-2013-Server-Role-f8a61780

to get recommended CPU, Memory & storage requirements.

I also found the minimum requirements for Server 2012 (which i'll be running Exchange on) - my question is do i need to take the output of the sizer AND the minimum Server 2012 system requirements to get the total system requirements needed?

Thanks in advance

how do i make OAB generation faster?

Exchange 2013 cu4, Windows Server 2008 R2

I have users complain that, since we're using cache mode in Outlook, any new additions to the address book are not being received in a timely manner. how I work around this is to recreate their Outlook profile in order to force a pull request of OAB.

so I did some checking and found the following:

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-MailboxServer mb02|fl *oab*

OABGeneratorWorkCycle           : 08:00:00
OABGeneratorWorkCycleCheckpoint : 01:00:00

from what I understood, the above would mean OAB generates every 8 days? this was configured by a vendor when they upgraded us from 2010 to 2013.

will it do any harm if I make the OAB generation to daily?

Limitations to migrate from Exchange 2010 to 2016

Hello All,

I am planning to migrate Exchange 2010 to 2016. One exchange 2016 server will be installed as a virtual instance (on a Hyper-V cluster) and other Exchange 2016 server will be installed on a physical server. Network Load Balancing will be done through Hardware load balance. DAG will be configured for HA.

What are challenges to deploy such solution ( Servers in Virtual and Physical environment)?

What is the recommended hardware load balance?

Appriciate your quick response

Thanks

Upgrading to Exchange 2016

I realize that Exchange 2016 is really new, but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this here.

I have a test environment that consists of a DC and a single Exchange Server.  The Exchange server runs all roles for the Exchange environment.  I would like to upgrade this server to 2016, but i get an error that Exchange is already installed on this box, and that I have to remove it.  Can't I just upgrade the box in place?  Wouldn't removing exchange from this server remove the configuration that I have already setup , which I'd rather not have to go through again.

thanks for the help

Exchange 2010, high delay with sending emails - TooManySubmissions

$

Hi there,

I've been facing this weird issue where users of one particular server are experiencing extreme delays when sending emails from outlook/OWA.

Outlook would put the email in the sent folder but it wouldn't be picked up by the message queue until very very much later (sometimes up to 1 hour). OWA would leave the message in the draft folder.

The MSGTRKM log give me this error: TooManySubmissions, Too many concurrent submissions from mailbox database. The limit is 8.

The message is quite easy to understand but I can't seem to figure out the root cause... anyone has any input?

Much appreciated.

I Need to convert Exchange EDB to PST file

OST file of one of the users has got corrupt, due to which he is not able to access his mails. He has asked me to provide him a solution to get access to his mailbox back. Being an Exchange Admin, I can convert the exchange EDB to PST, which the user can import into his Outlook to get the mails back. I have tried to export PST file from Exchange 2013 with powershell script but something went wrong and PST could not be exported. So, I am in a search of any alternate solution to Export Exchange EDB to PST.

Please help as I need to provide the used with PST file asap.

Issues after enabling Outlook Anywhere

$

Hope someone can help with some odd issues that happened after turning on Outlook Anywhere to support our upgrade to Exchange 2013. Here is our setup.

Primary Office

2 CAS Servers in an array (load balanced through MNLB - in process of moving to Hardware LB)

2MB Servers in a DAG (Replicated to Remote DR Site)

Branch Office

2 CAS Servers in an array (load balanced using Hardware Load balancer - Kemp)

2 MB Servers in a DAG (Replicated to Primary Site)

All Systems have Office 2010 SP1

All Exchange Servers are 2010 SP3 RU9

The problem is not happening with all users, only a few. Some will get a message that says "The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you to quit and restart Outlook." ... While other will get "The connection to the Microsoft Exchange is unavailable".

When checking the connection status, some of the connections show connected to TCP/IP and then others show HTTPS (on the same machine)? If I do a reconnect, all the connections go to TCP/IP and then mail will flow again. The odd thing is this is only happening on new computers that are being added to the domain (Primary site has not added any new PC's and is not experiencing the problem). Does anyone have any suggestions at to what might be causing the this? And is there a way to force the connection to only go to TCP/IP and not HTTPS?

Thanks,

Gavin.

ManagedAvailability problem with Mailbox Transport Submission after CU6

We are getting the following error after CU6 implementation:

Seems like a latency issue... But, all tests are succesful, we are not experience any harm/issue. So, can we consider it as "by design" or should we take action?

Mailbox Transport Submission - the verification that the probe messages were successfully submitted within 5 minutes to HUB has failed.

This could indicate that the mailbox submissions are taking too long or not progressing at all.

SequenceNumber: 635484312145508431

Error: MapiSubmitLAMProbe finished with CheckPreviousMail failure.

FailureContext: MapiSubmitLAMProbe finished with CheckPreviousMail failure.

ExecutionContext: MapiSubmitLAMProbe started. This performs - 1. Submits a new message to Store 2. Checks results from previous Send Mail operation. Sequence # = 635484312145508431. First Run? = False. Previous mail submission to store was successful. Results - # of previous results: 0. Could Not Find stages that ran. Previous SendMail failure - Mail submitted to Store during the previous run never reached SendAsCheck.

This may indicate a latency from Store to Submission Service. Investigating. Found lower SA latency. Indicates an issue in Submission service.

Exchange 2016 in coexistence with Exchange 2010 - Setting balancing

Friends,

I have read a lot about balancers. Blog - Load balancing in exchange 2016

Seeking in the forum found some people who use third-balancing solutions.

Comes with Exchange 2016 now can not use NLB, you must define which solution to use.

I am testing the free version of KEMP that allows me to use freely (Single Namespace / Layer 4 "In Session Affinity") which in my case enough.

Reading about the options that Exchange provides together with balancers (L4 and L7), I believe that using the free version of KEMP production may be feasible.

The risks that will have the support in case of problems and updating version.

Regarding the point of failure to have only one server, I can replicate the virtual server to another host in case of hardware failure, so do not need a HA.

My is needed in case of failure of a physical host, keep functioning Exchange, even if it is necessary to take several minutes to reset the environment.

I currently have two physical hosts, each with MBX (DAG) / CAS (NLB).

I need to discuss this issue to reach a conclusion.

Thank you.

Export request stuck at failed - user isn't a mailbox user

Hi,

on our exchange 2010 SP1 (don't ask why it's not updated) I got a user which is no longer with us in the company. User is disabled for a long time but still in AD. After I export a mailbox for another user and run the get-MailboxExportRequest -status completed | Remove-MailboxExportRequest I get a "leftover" user and status failed.

Then I run: get-MailboxExportRequest -status failed | Resume-MailboxExportRequest

I get an error message: company/OU/user isn't a mailbox user or mail-enabled user.

I inherited this situation from a college which administered our Exchange environment before so I don't know what has been done.

Thanks,

Get-MailboxStatistics command to run and not count hidden objects

I have a script that generates a report on a set of mailboxes in an OU and how many messages are in the Inbox using the following command:

Get-MailboxFolderStatistics $mailbox -FolderScope Inbox | Where {$_.FolderPath -eq "/Inbox"}

There is a lot more to this script and it outputs a lot of information, but the count of items in the inbox is always wrong. It seems to be counting a lot of hidden items which users cannot see. From my reading in many forums this is a common problem, and so far I have not found a solution.

Is there a way to fun the Get-MailboxFolderStatistics command and folder out hidden objects?

Exchange 2013 to 2016 migration OWA 404 error

$

Hi,

I have one Exchange 2013 CU10 server and have deployed a single Exchange 2016 server. Exchange 2016 is configured and a valid SSL certificate is installed.

Namespaces still resolve to Exchange 2013 and as I understand it unlike previous versions I do not need to change the namespaces at this stage if I don't want to and Exchange 2013 should be able to proxy requests to Exchange 2016 for mailboxes that I move.

However, I get 404 page not found errors when accessing Exchange 2016 mailboxes via the 2013 CAS server. This also affects Outlook, Outlook won't connect to the mailbox (repeated password prompts). If I make hosts files entries to resolve namespaces to Exchange 2016 then I can open Outlook and OWA, I can also access 2013 mailboxes via the Exchange 2016 server. OA, EWS, OWA, ECP are configued the same across both servers i.e. same authentication methods.

Thanks.

End user cannot create Outlook 2013 profile on Exchange 2013

Greetings all and thanks in advance,

Ex2013 cu7, Outlook 2013

I have one user that when she goes to different workstations, Outlook 2013 will not auto-configure an Outlook profile for her.  However any new users using the same workstation as her and then logs on as themselves, Outlook will auto-configure their account/profile w/out issue.

It is like her mailbox is corrupt or permissions are whack.  I've moved her mailbox to a different database, but the issue persists.

Here is the message we get during auto-configure:

The auto Account Setup screen shows the correct user display name and the correct email address.  When you click next,

  • We get a green check next to: "Establishing network connection"
  • We get a green check next to "Searching for username@domain.com settings'

Then when it tries to log onto the mail server, this message:  "The connection to the Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to the complete this action".

Accessing her OWA from the same PC is allowed.  No problems.

This is NOT machine specific, as it will happen on any machine she signs onto.

This is only happening with this one account out of 550 people.

When I acknowledge the error, I am taken to the General tab for the profile, where the GUID or whatever that big long string of characters is that represents the exchange server.  The mailbox field is populated with this:  =smtp:username@contoso.com.  Checking name reveals this error:  The name cannot be resolved.  The connection to the Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.

Thanks for your input.

Willis
