Public folder - apply changes to public folders and subfolders (slow)

$

Hi guys.
Exchange 2013.

Applying changes to public folder permission.

We are doing it thru Exchange Admin Center.

We wish to submit permission for a several public folders by marking APPLY CHANGES TO THIS PUBLIC FOLDER AND ALL ITS SUBFOLDERS.

The thing is that it takes a lot of time for task to be completed, and there arent very large numbers of subfolders in public folders (lets say maximum 50?).

Is there a way to achieve this with some other tool, or use powershel script?
The idea is to remove all the permissions, and set custom users and their permissions...

thanks, with best regards

IMAP - Complete Configuration

$

Hi All,

I deployed a brand new Single Exchange 2013 Server with combined roles for Internal Use ONLY. I'm using a cert issued by Internal Enterprise Root CA. I've included the names imap.domain.com in it.

To configure IMAP I started both the IMAP Services in Exchange 2013 Server. After which I tested with the command,

Test-IMAPConnectivity and the result is SUCCESS.

When I'm configuring the IMAP profile in Outlook I'm getting error when configuring the profile. The Logon happens successfully but send email fails.

I want to know the complete configuration of IMAP.

Do I need to set InternalConnectionSettings because it is already set to server FQDN:port:ssl , FQDN:port:tls. I want to know which is incoming server name and outgoing server name. Do I need to set internal server fqdn.

I need assistance in complete configuration, like what should be authentication settings,

Do I need to Disabled the EnableGSSAPIAndNTLMAuth parameter.

Set-IMAPSettings -EnableGSSAPIAndNTLMAuth $false

Thanks

Hi, new mail enabled public folders don't receive alert messages from different appliances, but if i send a message from user mailbox to PF, PF receives a message. Old PF also receive alert messages. When i send a message from appliance, service user from this appliance gets error:

#554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException.MapiExceptionNotFound; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Could not open folder.

What is the problem?

Exchange 2013 new Installation no Outlook Connection

$

Hi all and thanks for reading.

This is a completely new installation, all Servers and Clients have been installed fresh on new Hardware.

Information:

Small Network, 2 Servers:
1x DC - W2k12R2
1x Exchange 2013 - W2k12R2
Clients: W10 + Office 2013

All patched up to the newest Windows / Office / Exchange Updates (Cu 15)
Network is currently without Internet.

Exchange has a selfsigned cert, generated with installed AD-CA on the DC. Cert contains names for external and internal URLs configured within exchange and has been imported to all Server and Clients.
The external and internal URLs have been set in the exchange.

Error:

When you try to configure Outlook, the assistant completes the autodiscover, the last steps keeps saying: "the connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable. outlook must be online or connected to complete..."
Trying manual config also generates the same issue

OWA, Ping, Test-Outlookconnectivity without any errors. (Also no certificate warning in OWA or outlook)
No errors in the eventlog of the servers or clients.

additional info:

At some point of troubleshooting, i have also activated MAPI over HTTP, but this hasn't changed anything about the error, also the mapiselftest probes don't show any error.

get-healthreport shows "unhealthy" at "network", but i was not able to determine the exact problem, yet.

i would appreciate any help or hints to further track down this issue.

Thanks in advance

/EDIT:

Oh, and currently there is no antivirus or firewallsoftware installed

Exchange 2013 Space Usage for same email to multiple mailboxes

$

I am curious how exchange 2013 and beyond handle space usage for single messages going to many recipients.

For example, if I send 1 10k message without an attachment to 100 recipients all on the same database, does Exchange count each message separately towards storage usage?  For example, would the total storage used in the database be 1000KB (~1MB) or would it only be 10k?

What if there is an attachment?  If I sent the same 10k message to 100 recipients, but this time I attached a 10MB file, would Exchange store 100 copies of the attachment? Therefore using 1GB of storage, or would it only use 10MB of storage?

What if the same two scenarios above occur, but 50 users are on one database and 50 users are on another?

thanks

Filterpacks

Guys,

can someone explain to me what the purpose of a filterpack on Exchange is?

I found this:

The Microsoft Filter Pack is a single point-of-distribution for Office IFilters. IFilters are components that allow search services to index content of specific file types, letting you search for content in those files. They are intended for use with Microsoft Search Services (Sharepoint, SQL, Exchange, Windows Search).

(** Source : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17062)

But it is abacadabra to me.

Also, i noticed there are x32 and x64 filterpacks available. Do i need to install both on an Exchange server?

thanks for the help.

Lots of Errors with BPA

I have just installed and configured a new Exchange 2013 server in preparation for a migration from 2007. Everything is configured and ready to start the migration. I decided to run the BPA before moving users, but get all of these errors and not sure where to start to fix them. When running the Get-Health command, a lot of the monitoring stuff states unhealthy. Any ideas?

Need to Block an entire domain

Exchange 2010 not 2013 but cant seem to select 2010...!

I want to set a block on an entire domain but cannot seem to find out how to do this - why is it not easy?

I cannot see the 'Anti Spam' tab in EMC Hub Transport.
Tried to enable lt using shell commands Set-TransportServer but keep getting no settings of XXX have been modified!.

I then tried to set a Transport Rule instead but cannot see how to exclude an entire domain.
I read somewhere that *@domainname.com does not work as wildcards are not allowed.

Can some one tell me how I can exclude an entire domain please?

And if anyone from Microsoft reads this please make it easier! We don't all have admins that deal with exchange all day!

Thanks in advance

I am wanting to import a PST into a mailbox. The PST contains various folders as well as Calendar items. What is happening is the process creates a folder called "Primary Mailbox" and puts all the items in that instead of merging the pst contents into the target mailbox's existing folder structure. Is there a way to merge ?

my command is "New-MailboxImportRequest targetMBX -Filepath \\Server01\Import.pst"

Exchange Domain Name change

Hi,

Recently i just change my exchange email domain name.

I have changed from @abc to @123.

Changed Virtual directory access as well.

However, on OWA it was still possible to access to both mail.abc.com/owa and mail.123.com/owa

Is it possible to only allow mail.123.com/owa to be accessible? without deleting the old accepted domain ( abc.com)?

Thank you

Exchange 2007 hybrid Exchange 2013

We have Exchange 2007 and want to go hybrid.
So we need an Exchange 2013 "hybrid" servers in co-existence with Exchange 2007.

Some questions i have;

- We need to switch CAS (autodiscover/ews/oa) to Exchange 2013. Do we need to configure Exchange 2007 with LEGACY url's and is a LEGACY url needed in an Exchange 2007/2013 hybrid Office 365 environment?

- If we keep users on Exhange 2007 can we move user mailboxes straight from Exchange 2007 to Office 365?

- Is it wiser/best-practise to first move to Exchange 2013 and fase out 2007 and then go hybrid?

Updated information.

I can succussfully connect to the exchange powershell from a remote computer, using this method.

$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri http://<FQDN of Exchange 2013 Client Access server>/PowerShell/ -Authentication Kerberos

Import-PSSession $Session

So the problem is localised on the server.

Exchange Online Archive not bringing up all results

$

Hi,

We have recently moved some users over to Online Archives in our Exchange 2013 environment and found that people are complaining that they are not getting complete search results because they seem to be limited. Note this is not that the items are not "searchable", just that not all of them appear.

For example, I put in outlook the query:

received:2015  from:(daniel)

I only get results from December and November that year.

I know the index is working because if I put in:

received:Feb 2015 from:(daniel)

It brings up all the results from daniel in Feburary 2015.

We want to increase the results somehow that Outlook brings back to include all items not just a subset.

Is this limitation something from the exchange side I need to tweak to show more results or something from outlook? Is this possible to change?

I have tried in both cached mode and online in Outlook and tried with Outlook Web Access but both show the same issue. That led me to believe that it was something Exchange side, but I couldnt see anything.

Could anyone please help?

Thanks,

Brendan

Oversimplifying 2013 migration?

$

Morning, I have a Windows 2003 environment running Exchange 2003.  I am planning on standing up a 2012 R2 environment running Exchange 2013.  However I notice you can't go straight to 2013 from 2003, you have to do it incrementally from 2003, 2007, 2013.

However within this environment it only has at the most 10 users.  My thought was why not just create a PST for every user and just move it over to the new 2012 environment with Exchange 2013.  Am I oversimplifying the move or is it really that simple in such a small environment?

Remote Connectivity Analyzer verification challenge always fails

$

I am trying to debug some connectivity issues related to accessing some on-prem mailboxes as well as some mailboxes that are being moved to Office 365.

I wanted to use the Remote Connectivity Analyzer but over the last couple of days I have been unable to get past the verification step so that I can actually run the tests.  I have tried using Edge, IE11 and Chrome on Windows 10, and Windows Server 2012R2. I have had people looking over my shoulder as I type in the verification code to be sure I am putting in the correct code and I keep getting the following message:

"testconnectivity.microsoft.com says: Verifying the challenge failed. Please refresh the page and try again"

The page specifically says that the code is NOT case-sensitive but I have tried it both ways and still get the error.

Anyone run into this?  Work arounds?  Any thought would be a help,

Thanks in advance,

Outlook Anywhere Exchange 2013 Error

$

My clients are getting "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server server.sub.domain.com. (Error Code 80000000)." This is only happening from outside of the network. I have a SAN certificate with the server name above, as well as with the outside name mail.domain.com (external), autodiscover.domain.com (external), and autodiscover.sub.domain.com (internal). The error can be dismissed, and Outlook works normally afterwards.

Remote connectivity analyzer shows no errors for Outlook Anywhere or EWS. I have removed all other certificates from my Exchange server. I have verified that the internal/external URLs are correct for Outlook Anywhere, OWA, ActiveSync, AutoDiscover, etc.

Any ideas of what may be going on?

I'm trying to determine some of the prep work I need to do before CU8 to CU13.  Based on the documentation, I'm assuming I need to run the following commands on the DC prior to the upgrade.  Can someone confirm?

setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IacceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
setup.exe /PrepareAD /IacceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
setup.exe /PrepareDomain /IacceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

Thanks
