I have a test network that I am using for my certifications. I am teaching myself IIs and exchange 2013 so I have lots of questions. I have domain controller and two member servers connected to the domain. One member server is running IIs 8 and the other member sever is running exchange 2013. Both servers are working correctly. I can send and recieve email to users on my test domain using outlook within the test network. Do I need IIs for exchange 2013 to work properly?  What is the association between IIs and exchange 2013? In what situation or configuration would I need to use IIs with exchange 2013? Any assistance will be appreciated.

What i am unsure about is the "Update the federation proof of domain ownership TXT record in external DNS"

I have 78 domains in my accepted domains on exchange, some external, internal relay but the majority of domains are authoritative 

Does the TXT need to be updated for all these domains? including the yourdomain.mail.onmicrosoft.com one?

Also two years ago we got rid of our ADFS infrastructure and are now using AD connect with Pass-Through Authentication resulting in our domains being switched to the Authentication type "Managed"  

Does the updating of TXT records still apply?

Am just trying to get a list of users that belong to a given address book.

I have queried the configurationNamingContext to get a list of address lists in the objectClass=addressBookContainer.  I notice that all of the address lists returned have the property 'purportedSearch' set to what looks like an ldap query  (&(mailNickname=*)... etc) that I might be able to use to get the members of the address list.

I am just wondering if there is any documentation that explains what this field is used for and what it means.

Also, is there a difference between address lists that have 'VLV' appended after their name and those that don't.  For example I have an 'All Contacts' and an 'All Contacts VLV'.

Is it  possible not to install and configure AD FS in that case?

 I would like to connect WAP with two Exchange servers (MAILBOX(DAG) + CAS).

Both of mailbox servers contain active and passive copies of databases.

Two CAS would have the same namespace, so the clients would use the same external url.

Does the  WAP forwards https request to one and to second CAS in the same time?

Do we have the same SSL certificate for two CAS and WAP?

And finally do we request SSL certificate from third - party CA because I'd like to avoid installation of Certificate Authority on the DC?

I'm kinda pulling my hair out here. I had a power outage which looks to have corrupted the mailstore. Running eseutil /r and eseutil /d have completed successfully but the database still isn't mounting.

I also change the retention policy on some Mailboxes about seven days ago.. Today, nothings is changed on mailbox.. all mailboox still have a many older (months..) email on Deleted items folder..

a Customer have an atypical configuration with two Exchange 2013 with Cu23 installed. One with Client Access role, the second with Mailbox role.

For Cumulative Update, recommendation is to upgrade Mailbox Server first and CAS server after.

i had request from user for delegation of other mailbox to his account. i did the same from EAC of exchange 2013 , included his name inSEND AS and FULL ACCESS. user is able to see the new mailbox in his Outlook and able to receive emails, but user cannot send from that mailbox. what could be the valid reasons? is there a need to reset AD account password?.

There's a bunch of threads about this, all of which are locked with no satisfactory responses/answers (seriously, why???).

Creating this thread as I found a solution!

Scenario:

In Outlook, when attempting to move messages/folders to another mailbox (eg a shared mailbox), the messages COPY instead of Move. Tried different machines, outlook profiles, user accounts etc.

I also noticed I couldn't delete the emails either, and would get this error "Some items cannot be deleted. They were either moved, already deleted, or access was denied”

We migrated from exchange to office 365 about two years ago. We have a legacy exchange server that we use as a relay for our database application. The application sends out emails to clients and internal users.

The relay works because people outside our organization receive emails from our application. The issue is no one inside our organization can receive emails from our application.

To explain better lets say our domain is abc.com. The domain on the legacy server (relay) is still abc.com. The domain in office 365 is abc.com. When emails go thru the relay they seem to try and deliver emails to abc.com to the local server and not relay it to the office 365 account. Any other email domains pass thru the relay no problem.

How do I get the relay to pass the domain abc.com thru to office 365?

We have 2 Exchange Server 2013 CU23 configured as DAG, its been working good But just recently we have notice that the Mobile Exchange ActiveSync keeps disconnecting every 2 or 3 days, not syncing with the Exchange Server 2013 But the Outlook in the Computer and Laptop is working Fine.

We have to Restart the Exchange Servers to Sync/connect the Mobile phones, after Restarting the Mobile Phones are connected again in the Exchange Server. This has been happening for this past 3 weeks.

Hoping for any help.
