Recipient limit-cross forest migration

$

Hi All

I am in a position of doing cross forest migration. Source Exchange is 2007 and target 2013.In the source mail box has got recipient limit set(ex 50). currently we are in a co-existence scenario. when a migrate user send a mail to many distribution list the user receives too many recipients error. which is generating by the remote exchange server(source). Is there away to overcome the issue without increasing the recipient limit on the source enabled user?

Setup.exe options for Exchange 2013 CU9

Getting ready to apply CU9 to our Exchange 2013 CU7 box. I ran across an installation note that thought I should check out. The article is athttp://www.howto-outlook.com/news/exchange2013cu9.htm. It mentions:

Important!
When installing Exchange 2013 CU9, make sure you also explicitly execute:
setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
This command is being skipped since CU9 doesn’t contain any schema changes when compared to CU7 and CU8. However, CU9 does include RBAC changes which are otherwise not applied and the improvements in KB3050877 will not work.

I didn't see this in the Microsoft kb article. Is this a preferred setup option?

Moving from one Exchange 2013 server to another Exchange 2013 Server

Ok,

I have an Exchange 2013 server that I have been tasked with replacing and moving everyone off of to another Exchange 2013 Server.

It is Standard, Version 15..0 (build 775.38) with Mailbox and Client Access roles installed.

How much will the talk to each other once they are on the same domain, will the two servers replicate all setting between the two? Have lots of reading to do. I have upgraded from 2003 to 2007, setup and administered Exchange servers without issue so I do have some knowledge just never went this route before.

I am just wondering if there is any documentation to help with something like this. With the server having public folders and integrated with Unified Messaging I would like to complete this without issue and be prepared as much as possible.

Thank you,

Tom

Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 SP1 CU9.
Get-Mailbox different results from EMS and "clear" powerhell console

1. Why "Get-Mailbox" cmdlet shows different results when running the Exchange Managment Shell
and "clear"  powershell console, not EMS
[on the server Exchange => powershell => add-pssnapin *Exch* => (Get-Mailbox -resultsize unlimited).count]?
Results in the attached screenshot:

2. Why the Mailbox created by "clear"  powershell console (on the server Exchange) is not visible in the ECP and EMS?

Thanks for any information.

Exchange 2013 - 2 member servers - 1 Witness server

Greetings,

So we have 2 Exchange 2013 servers running on a Server 2012 R2 platform. They aremember servers of a single DAG, and 1 witness server. My question is, how safe is it to restart the witness server alone to apply updates? Better yet, is there a process or sequence in which to restart the witness and member servers after applying Windows updates?

Any help/suggestions will be very appreciated.

Thank you!

I have concerns regarding the external access for ECP. I have seen some solutions regarding it, but I have to work on them later. Until then, would it be ok if I do not to set an external URL for ECP?

Logging on to mail server, failed within Outlook.

Hi guys,

Currently I'm having an issue in creating mailboxes within Outlook. As stated in the subject all steps verifies until it gets to the point of "logging on to the mail server"

For testing purposes I use the Auto Account setup, not specifying the exchange server FQDN and outlook anywhere details. Prior to the issue I'm experiencing now it did work through this method.

During the auto account setup it successfully verifies the following: Establishing network connection, searching for the email address settings ( where it prompts authentication, once given resolves successfully ), and finally at the last step of "logging on to the mail server" it prompts authentication once again, after given once more, it fails, stating Exchange should be online or connected.

This is a new installation of Exchange 2013 Std on a small scale for 10-20 users. Installed as a stand-alone server.

All mailboxes are accessible through OWA, just setting up from within Outlook where the issue is encountered.

I've successfully queried the autodiscover service which resolves to the correct address as well as the FQDN for external use ( as for OWA ).

What am I missing here, can it be certification issue? I'm currently using the self-signed certificates exchange generated by default during installation, as I'm waiting on the releasing of a 3rd party SSL cert. Creating these mailboxes in Outlook did work previously, also only relying on the self-signed certs.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Regards

after migrating a few users to ex2013 their clients have 8e758aef-9c56-4f46-ab64-4a46a72f0f08 in the server name field. creating a new profile does not fix either.

most of them are connecting to the server but it odd to see that instead of true name.

OAB Downloads fail with 0x80190194

I read about this problem a lot, but did not find any correct answer. I hope somebody can help.

Exchange 2013 CU7 (migrated from Exchange 2007, but for now only the Exchange 2013 is available)

1. When I try to download OAB from Outlook 2007 or 2013, I get 0x80190194 error, but not for all computers and not for all users. One of our domain admin can download the OAB, but I can not (i have the same privilegies). Some of our users can download OAB, some other users who has the same rights, can not. We tried all the users on many machines and who could download it, can download from anywhere.

2. I try to open from O2007 or O2013 address book\All Rooms I get alert message because of "bookmark is not valid".

3. If I try to update All Rooms from ECP or run in EMS the  Get-GlobalAddressList | Update-GlobalAddressList command I get this:

Active Directory operation failed on dc1.domain.local. This error is not retriable. Additional information: Insufficient access rights to perform the operation.
Active directory response: 00002098: SecErr: DSID-03150E49, problem 4003 (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0

I think these correlate with a main issue, but i don't know where and how can I manage it. Can anybody help me?

Copy queue length: 9223372036853793027

For the past 2 months, the night I install updates on the Exchange 2013 servers, after the second server is updated I cannot move the databases to their normal servers (we have the servers in an active - active setup with half of the databases on each).

When I try to move them using the ECP console it fails, the error it reports is:

error
databasename
An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: An error occurred while trying to validate the specified database copy for possible activation. Error:

        servername:
Database copy 'databasename' on server 'servername' has a total (copy plus replay) queue length of 9223372036853793063 logs, which is higher than the maximum allowed queue length of 400. If you need to activate this database copy, you can use the Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase cmdlet with the -SkipLagChecks and -MountDialOverride parameters to forcibly activate the database copy. If the database does not automatically mount after running Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase successfully, use the Mount-Database cmdlet to mount the database.
         [Database: databasename, Server: servername.domain.com]

I found multiple reports of this in Exchange 2010 but nothing for 2013. I tried the powershell commands used in 2010 to force a move, but i get a database in unknown status not active on either server.

Last month I reseeded one database and it suddenly changed the CQL to 0 for all other databases and let me move them.

Any ideas what is causing this and how I fix it without spending hours waiting for a reseed to finish?

Consolidate Archive and regular mailbox in a Exchange 2010 -> 2013 migration

Hi!

I have a couple of mailboxes in my Exchange 2010 environment that also have an archive. I would like to when migrating to 2013 that the archive would be consolidated into the regular mailbox. I don't want any Archive-databases in 2013.

Not sure how to do this? Is it possible with New-MoveRequest ?

Thanks!

Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 - Outlook cannot connect and OWA always redirects to legacy

$

I recently set up an Exchange 2013 server in order to migrate our Exchange 2007 mailboxes over. In DNS I have a 'mail' ecord that points to our new Exchange 2013 server. I also created a 'legacy' record that points to the 2007 server.  We also have a local CA and I generated an exchange certificate with this CA and installed in the 2013 Exchange server. Autodiscover SEEMS to be working. Errors I get:
On a migrated account - using Outlook to create a brand new profile-
"Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
On an account that only exists on the new Exchange 2013 box - new profile:
'The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
In OWA:
Trying to login with the Exchange 2013 only account it seems to try and login, sits and thinks about it for awhile and then the URL switches to the legacy URL. The login obviously fails with a "This page cannot be displayed" error.

Note from above the DNS alias 'mail' is the new server. So if I ping 'mail' I get replies from new server, nslookup shows new server also. But if I do :
nslookup mail.my.domain.name
it fires back :
Name: mail.my.domain.name.my.domain.name
Address: <address of OLD 2007 Exchange>
I would think this nslookup would show the NEW Exchange 2013 machine?

PLEASE HELP! If you need for information I will do my best!

Hi guys

I've recently deployed Exchange 2013 Std as a stand-alone server.

Mailboxes I've created is accessible through OWA and can be set up on mobile devices, but Outlook keeps failing in the setup of these mailboxes, stating it should be online or connected.

What could be the cause of this, certificates?

Thanks in advance.

Exchange SSL certificates

I have replaced the digicert SSL certificate on each of our Exchange and CAS servers with a SHA2 certificate, however, OWA is still reporting it uses a SHA1 certificate.

Looking in the ECP console under Servers > Certificates, I see each server has the digicert certificate plus 3 self signed certs, all of the self signed are SHA1 (see image)

How do I replace these with SHA2 and which of them is the one used by OWA?

Hello all, I'm having quite a frustrating problem. I have to access my mailbox data from OST file, but don’t know why, while Outlook tried to access OST file it failed with an error  showing “Internal Error code=0000000E”- OST file cannot be accessed.
I had already tried restarting Outlook, rebuilding OST File, executing SCANOST .exe , Nothing worked, So don’t waste time suggesting these as a solution. I am in hurry so please help me out with a solution providing quick results.

Any help would be appreciated !!!!!
